Best Wines to Gift for Christmas 2024
FOR THE RED WINE LOVER - PEPIN 'ROUGE'
A beautiful lighter red blend from a top notch producer in Alsace, France that's certified biodynamic and has no added sulfites. Fruit salad vibes (berries, cherries, and more) mingled with spices, a smidge of oak, vanilla and nutmeg.
FOR THE SKIN-CONTACT WINE LOVER - PEPIN 'ORANGE'
Another beautiful wine from Pepin that you don't want to miss. Made out of Gewurztraminer in Alsace (the optimal growing plave for the grape), it is beginner-friendly, but can also impress your wine nerd. You can smell the burstingly ripe tangerines and syrupy fruits. There is zest and your palate will be treated to an explosion of flavors such as lemon, grapefruit, pear, apricot, apple, with a pinch of honey, stone and minerals.
FOR THE WHITE WINE LOVER - GAUDIOSO 'ZIBIBBO'
Zibibbo's is one of the most interesting grapes, with rich history beyond any other grape we've encountered, so interesting we've actually dedicated an entire blog post to it. Also known as Muscat of Alexandria, it is grown biodynamically by Family Gaudioso on the island of Sicily, Italy in volcanic soils. They only make about 1,300 bottles a year! The wine smells like yellow flowers, candied citrus fruits, vanilla and syruped apricots. It tastes like almond and has a caramel aftertaste. There is also plenty minerality because of the volcanic soil. It is definitely not a boring white wine.
FOR THE SPARKLING WINE LOVER - BRAZILIER 'BRUT' NV
Why pay $$$ to gift Champagne when you can get a bottle of this biodynamic sparkling producer from Loire Valley for under $20? It stands up to any Champagne you come across with it's ripe lemon, peach and pear aromatics and a palate full of pineapple, citrus blossoms and chalkiness.
JUST GETTING INTO WINE OR NATURAL WINE - ANGELO NEGRO 'TPG ROERO ARNEIS'
Roero Arneis is a noble grape from the same region as Barolo (Piedmont, Italy) and once nicknamed the 'White Barolo'. Though its roots lean to a more classic and elegant white wine, Angelo Negro flips the script and creates a whole new, more approachable version here. The wine is cloudy and has grapefruit aromatics alongside notes of peach and lychee. A pleasantly tart wine with hints of Golden Delicious apple on the palate, this wine is for everyone.
WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY LIKE TO DRINK - MARCIO LOPES 'PEQUENOS REBENTOS'
This biodynamic sparkling wine from a pioneer in natural winemaking, made out of the native Loureiro grape, is the perfect showcase of what Portugal has to offer to the world. Floral, melon and delicate citrus aromas combined with a dry, citrus finish - skip the Champagne and gift this, it is absolutely refreshing, and at a fraction of the cost!
